Frequently asked questions

Quick answers on quotations, fire ratings, security and specialist doors, installation and documents. Each door page has its own questions too.

Quotations and orders

What do you need from us to prepare a quotation?

The door schedule, plans and elevations showing each opening, the fire rating or performance each door needs, quantities, hardware requirements, finishes, and the delivery location and programme. If some of this is not decided yet, send what you have and we will list the open points with the quotation.

Can you work from a consultant's specification?

Yes. Send the relevant specification section with the door schedule. We check each requirement against the door's tested construction and flag anything that conflicts, such as glass sizes or hardware that a rated door cannot accept, before pricing.

Which countries do you deliver to?

We have supplied more than 1,500 projects in Jordan and across the Middle East and North Africa, including Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Libya and Algeria. Tell us where your project is and we will confirm delivery with the quotation.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

Within Jordan there is no minimum: we supply from a single door. For export orders the minimum is 10 doors.

How long does production take?

Within Jordan, doors are typically delivered within 1 to 2 weeks. For export orders, lead time depends on quantity. We confirm the programme with your quotation.

Fire-rated doors

What fire rating does my door need?

The rating comes from the building's fire strategy and the wall the door sits in, as set by the designer and approved by the authority having jurisdiction, which in Jordan is the General Directorate of Civil Defence, and in other countries the local civil defence authority. Common ratings are 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes. Our guideFire door ratings explainedshows how to read them.

Can a fire door have a glass vision panel?

Yes, using fire-rated glass in a fire-rated glazing system, within the sizes covered by the door's test evidence. Larger glazed areas need a specifically tested design, so tell us the size you need at enquiry stage.

Can we add a lock or change the hardware after installation?

Only with hardware approved for a fire door of the same rating, fitted to the door's existing preparations or as its documentation allows. Cutting new holes or fitting unrated hardware can void the rating. Ask before changing anything.

Can fire doors be kept open?

Never with wedges or hooks. A fire door can be held open only by a hold-open device that releases it automatically when the fire alarm sounds, so it closes and latches on its own.

How often should fire doors be inspected?

At least once a year under standards such as NFPA 80, and more often in busy buildings. Ourfire door inspection checklistlists what to check.

Security and specialist doors

Can one door be both fire-rated and a security door?

Yes, when that combination is covered by test evidence for both requirements. Tell us every requirement for the opening at the start, including fire rating, security class, escape and acoustics, so the door is specified once for all of them.

What does a security class such as RC3 mean?

It is a burglar resistance class under EN 1627, from RC1 to RC6, based on the tools and time an attacker is assumed to have. Our guideHow to specify a security doorexplains each class.

How is the lead thickness for an X-ray door chosen?

A qualified radiation protection adviser sets it from the room's shielding calculation, based on the equipment, workload and who is on the other side of the wall. Send us the figure in mm Pb for each door and we build to it. SeeX-ray doors.

Why can an acoustic door perform below its lab rating on site?

Laboratory ratings such as Rw are measured under ideal conditions. On site, gaps at the threshold, worn seals, a weak wall or a poor frame-to-wall seal let sound through. Correct installation and a matching wall are as important as the door. Seeacoustic doors.

Certificates and documents

How can we check your certificates?

Each certificate on ourCertificationspage shows the standard, certificate number and issuing laboratory. You can contact the laboratory or certification body directly to confirm it is genuine, current and covers your door configuration.

Where can we get datasheets, the catalog or CAD details?

Published documents are on theDownloadspage. For CAD details, shop drawings or a datasheet for a specific configuration, ask usand we will send them.
